In Pursuit of My Name

Hi Reader! I hope your are well.

In All The Black Girls Are Activists: A Fourth Wave Womanist Pursuit of Dreams as Radical Resistance, I touch on the historical impact white supremacy has on naming:

  1. The intentional stripping and renaming of our African ancestors was used to remove identity to dehumanize and assimilate them.
  2. White people re-naming others is a deep-rooted relationship with their colonizing ancestors. The great privilege of whiteness is that you operate with an arrogance that suggests that one does not have to make the basic effort of pronouncing a person's name correctly.
